Ojai is a small town unlike any other...
The mountains surround and define the landscape in which this old California town is nestled; this valley is only a few miles from the Pacific Ocean, but a world apart. A rare, natural phenomenon sometimes occurs here when the sun is setting and its rays are illuminating the Topa Topa mountains in the East End of the valley: known as "the Pink Moment," its beauty has mesmerized generations. It lasts only a few fleeting magic moments, but for those who have seen this light over the mountains the image is engraved in their memory. Painters and photographers have been inspired by the Pink Moment over the years. One of our favorite artworks is "Topa Topa Bluffs" - a pastel painting by Bert Collins: it captures both the power and the subtlety of this legendary Ojai sight. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alberta "Bert" Collins is one of the three co-founders of the Ojai Studio Artists (OSA), a nonprofit organization focused on supporting education in the visual arts. OSA artists open their studios to visitors every October for their Annual Studio Tour. Website contents ©2014-2024 Anca Colbert, All Rights Reserved |
