It is a pleasure to introduce ARTS about town
, a guide to the arts life and activities in Ojai.
The glorious Ojai Valley stretches east-west and enjoys a light of legendary beauty, which has long attracted visual artists, writers and many other creatives. Recently the arts activities have gained new momentum. Indeed, there is now a vibrant art scene here, with art lovers going from one event to yet another opening. So much so that a guide to help both locals and visitors make sense of it all seems to be a necessity at this point in time.
A wide spectrum of the art world is represented by the spaces in town: from Plein Air to Outsider Art, from the emerging to the world-famous, from the local to the international; you will find here works by painters, sculptors, ceramicists, printmakers, photographers. The guide also honors the many gifted craftsmen and artisans working in this valley.
Three sections will guide you on your art adventures:
Map: easy to use, it helps you navigate your way around downtown Ojai, to Meiners Oaks and the Upper Valley.
Events Calendar: organized in chronological order, art aficionados will have a clear picture of what’s going on around town, resolving the growing dilemma of “too many places, not enough time,” and finally able to make informed choices as to "where to go when."
Art and Gallery Listings: organized in alphabetical order, we cover galleries, museums, arts organizations, and arts related businesses - all venues that are a vital part of the local life and identity of the Ojai Valley as an artistic paradise for artists and a destination for art loving visitors.

Ojai is a small town unlike any other...
The mountains surround and define the landscape in which this old California town is nestled; it's only a few miles from the Pacific Ocean, but a world apart.
A rare, natural phenomenon sometimes occurs here when the sun is setting and its rays are illuminating the Topa Topa mountains in the East End of the valley: known as "the Pink Moment," its beauty has mesmerized generations.
It lasts only a few minutes, but for those who have seen the magic light of those fleeting moments the precious image is engraved in their memory.
Many artists have been inspired by that vision over the years. The work created by Bert Collins is a masterpiece of pastel artistry, capturing this Ojai legend.

Bert Collins is one of the three founders of the Ojai Studio Artists (OSA) a nonprofit artists organization focused on supporting arts education in the visual arts. OSA counts 58 local artists in its current membership.
The annual Studio Tour celebrates its 30th year. It marks the occasion with the publication of “OSA-3 Decades,” available at the Ojai Valley Museum Book Store.
